SOLDIERS’ GROUP.
The executive of the Soldiers’ Group met on Tuesday night, Mr AV. V. Charters being in the chair. Dr Alice Moreland reported that arrangements were completed tor the Cafe Cliant-ant to be held at the Art Gallery on Thursday, and that her Excellency Lady. Liverpool had consented to open the function. ,: Mr Nat. • Woods, on behalf of the Anzac and Citizens’ Defence Corps section, reported that everything, was well advanced for “ Anzac Day, which had been postponed two or three, times so as not to clash with other fixtures. It was reported that the lerntorml section, in conjunction with.the liinhei Trades section, had arranged a-joint bazaar and jumble sale in -King Edward Barracks on Thursday, Friday -ami. Saturday, February 24. 2o ami shows, fun and 'entertainments " pul he a feature of the bazaar. Notice was ./received from, the . m Scouts that-tlioy regretted being unable to assist the Soldiers’ Queen in consequence of the regulations governing t le carnival. The Scouts being mainly composed of school boys, had to yvoik to the Public Service Queen, nv spite ot their sympathies; in other directions, and they reluctantly had to withdia from the Soldiers’ group. ■ Mr Hall, representing the Bands, reported on the arrangements made rm their services on behalf of. the Soldiers Queen, which, were gratefully acknowledged.
. CAFE CHANTAXT. A Cafe Chantant. in aid of the Soldiers’ Queen will be opened, by hei - ceileney Lady Liverpool ni the Ai Gallery at 2.30 p.m. to-dav. An excellent programme has been arranged, and dancing will take place during the intervals. The entertainment promise s to be- very successful - in' every nay. The function will be open from p.m. till G p.in., and from t put. tin 11 p.m. COMBINED, GROUP BAZAAR AND JUMBLE SALE. ... ternoons and evenings a steady supply of saleable goods, produce, cakes, preserves, etc,, will he required.
NOVEL MOVING PICTURE FILMS. Dr Thacker and his friends have come forward as supporters of the Soldiers’ Queen. To help her to win the contest, Dr Thacker has arranged for special moving picture films to he shown in 'Everybody’s Theatre on Sunday evening. One item in the series will represent an operation. It will be performed on a soldier this morning, in order to enable him to go to the front. The incident will ho regarded as an illustration of fvhat soldiers will do to return to their duties, ft is intended, also, to have a moving picture photograph taken of the- opening of the Cafe Cliantant, by the' Countess of Liverpool in the Art Gallery this afternoon. There" will be other items, and the whole, it- is believed, will be interesting and instructive,- and,- in addition, will help the Soldiers’: Queen in the- contest.
