OPPOSITION FROM LABOUR. By Telegraph—Pre*i Association—Copyright SYDNEY, February 23. At a Political Labour League meeting Mr Meagher gave notice, of a motion censuring" Mr Pearce for issuing the early closing proclamation. The debate on the motion was held' in camera.
The Waterside Workers’ protest against the new regulations,' and threaten to stop work at five unless the proclamation is withdrawn. (Received February 23, P. 50 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 23 The early closing question is arousing intense public interest. Newspapers are inundated with letters and a battle royal is proceeding as to the merits and demerits of late and early closing, wet and dry canteens, and nationalisation. The caucus decision and Mr Pearce’s next move are anxiously awaited. Mr Meagher’s motion affecting the military measure is much criticised. Mr Pearce declares that lie does not think lie, will lose a moment’s sleep because of the censure motion.
MR MEAGHER EXPLAINS. (Received February 24, 12.40 p.m.) SYDNEY. February. 23. Mr Meagher explains that the reason he proposed his motion was that aS Mr Holman had announced his intention to introduce an Early Closing Bill on the reassembling of Parliament, he considered that Mr Pearce’s action was calculated to seriously embarrass the State Government.
