THE BRITISH LINES. GERMAN TRENCHES BOMBARDED. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 22. Twenty-six British aeroplanes carried out an attack on depots at Don yesterday. It is believed that extensive damage was done to the stores and to the railway. AM machines returned safely. Our artillery actively bombarded hostile trenches at Hullueli and nortli of the Ypres-Comincs canal, a largo explosion resulting from heavy howitzer fire against gun positions in the Radinshem area.

IN ARTOIS, GERMAN GRENADE ATTACK. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 21. In the Artois region a German attack on Hill 140 with grenades was unsuccessful.

SOUTH OF THE SOMME. TWO GERMAN GAS ATTACKS. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 22. South of the Somme in' the Lihons Bector tho Germans delivered successive gas .attacks in a front of seven kilometres without result.

It is officially stated that the heavy German attack in the Lihons sector which was preceded by an intense bombardment and successive omissions of asphyxiating gas, was beaten back everywhere.

A squadron of aeroplanes bombarded German munitions depots at Martincourt and Azoudanges south-west and south-east of Dieuzo. German aviators . threw some projectiles on Luneville, Dombaslo and Nancy, causing slight damage.

GENERAL BOMBARDMENT. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 22. The bombardment is general, especially in the "Verdun region. FIGHTS IN THE AIR. MANY AERIAL COMBATS. The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, February 22. ■ At Tagsdorft', east of Altkireh, a Fronch aeroplane attacked a Fokker, which fell. At Epinal an Albatross was brought down by our artillery. In the region of Bures, north-east of the forest of Parroy, a German machine was smashed by two of ours. A squadron- of seven French machines fought four enemy planes at VigneriJlos, two of the latter being brought down, while two fled. Enemy planes bombarded Fismes, Bar-le-Duc and Revigny. At the last-named place au eneni ysquadron of fifteen machines was attacked by our squadron, and the fight resulted in one enemy machine being brought down at Givny and a second being forced to descend. One of our squadrons of seventeen machines drooped sixty-six bombs on the aviation field at Habsheim" aud the goods station at Mulhatiseni. ' Twentyeight machines bombed the enemy munition works at Pagny-sur-Moselle. ; All machines returned safely.

"The Times" correspondent in Paris says that recent German prisoners belong to the. 1916 class. They arrived in France in January and were immediately sent to the front.
