DEER SHOOTING.

REGULATIONS FOR CANTERBURY. The regulations under the Animals Protection Act, 1908, governing deer shooting in Canterbury have been published in the. "Gazette." They provide that red deer stags may be taken or killed from April 1 to May 10 (both days inclusive). Licences may be issued by the Chief Postmaster at Cliristehurch, upon the recommendation of the secretary of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, on payment of a license fee of £5; The number of licenses to be issued shall not exceed eight: and if the number of applications recoived for licenses exceeds the number of available licenses, then the persons to whom licenses are to be issued shall be decided by ballot. No licensee shall take or kill more than three stags, and no stag shall he killed carrying antlers with loss than ten points. Ball cartridge only is to be used; but no metal patched or metal cased bullet shall be used for killing deer. No hind or fawn shall bo taken on killed on any pretext whatever: and no licensee shall allow any dog to' accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. The penalty for a breach of the roj gulations shall not exceed £2O.
