CANTERBURY MUSEUM.
RECENT ACQUISITIONS. One of the recent notable additions to the collection of birds in Canterbury Museum is a specimen of the magnificent bird of paradise, of New Guinea. It was presented to the Museum by Mr E. J. Haynes, the taxidermist. Dr Stevens has presented a verv good specimen of the shining cuckoo, which migrates to this country every year in the spring. Another addition "to the bird gallery is a specimen of the red-poll, a neatly plumaged English bird, which now is well established in this part of New Zealand. Mr R- C. Bishop has presented a. George Washington halfpenny, coined in 1783; Private A Gibbens, a Turkish soldier's valise, found at Ismailia; Mrs W. C. Walker, part of a spar belonging to the Elizabeth. Hcrcus, ono of the vessels that brought immigrant.-, to Canterbury in. the pioneering days; the -Sew Zealand Greenstone Company, two polished slabs of serpentine; Miss Bellwood, of New Brighton, tho "pen" 0 f a cuttlefish; the Canterbury Wirework Company, a Java sparrow; and Mr F T.
