Archer, sen., president of the Southbrook Red Cross branch, gave a social oven■W in the Methodist Schoolroom on Thurs day. Mr B. d’Auvergne presided over, a crowded gathering. The first part of the evening was taken up with musical Rems and recitations, contributed by Mesdames Huston and. Trollope and Misses Buckley and Laskey, and a quartette party from Wood end, consisting of Mrs Litt.e, Mrs J. Little and Messrs Archer and Shelton, Mr C R Thwaites plaved the accompaniments. Supper was followed by indoor games, and Mrs Archer was warmly thanked for her enjoyable entertainment Each one present brought gifts for the soldiers, and the result was most satisfactory. The guosts brought chocolates, writui"- 'outfits, handkerchiefs, socks, condensed milk cigarettes and money contributions, the whole forming quite a large collection.
