CONDITIONS FOR COMMISSIONS. A letter has been received by the C.D.C. from tho Hon James Allen, Minister of Defence, in reply to. its letter asking for particulars as to officers from New Zealand joining tho Royal Flying Corps. The Minister states that only men who have gained their pilots’ certificates at Messrs Walsh Bros.’ School of Flying, Auckland, can be considered when recommendations are being made by the Defence Department for commissions in tho Royal Flying Corps. No assistance can bo granted by the New Zealand or Imperial Governments until such time as a person has secured his pilot’s certificate. The conditions of joining the Royal Flying Corps are, attached. The Imperial Government will grant free passages for officers who are recommended by the New Zealand Defence Department, but if they prove unable to graduate as military pilots after instruction, they'will'be transferred for servico with the Infantry of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. All candidates must bo between the ages of eighteen and thirty, and bold a commission in the Dominion Military Forces. The .New Zealand Government will consider the granting of a commission to any -suitable person who may qualify for an aviator’s certificate under tho rules of the Royal Aero Club, and who fulfils all other conditions. Mechanics cannot he accepted for the Royal Flying Corps at present, as it has been notified that the establishment has been completed.
