MOTOR CARNIVAL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In connection with next Saturday’s Patriotic Motor Carnival, 1 have heard it stated by persons who are apparently unfamiliar with motor racing it is improbable that any high speeds will be registered on the Plmnpton track, owing to the flatness of the course.
In order to clear away any doubt, or misunderstanding that may exist in v!m minds of some of your readers, I would like to point out that already, during training operations and under adverse conditions, speeds in the vicinity oi sixty-five miles an hour have bejn reached by nearly all the first-class competitors, an inspection of yesterday's training notes confirming this statement.
The. competitors one and all speak highly of the track and consider it quite the best they have ever had experience of in New Zealand, very litt.c difficulty being experienced in negotiating the corners at high speeds.
As this is the first representative meeting of speed motorists in New Zealand. and probably constitutes the first opportunity tiio Dominion public has been afforded of witnessing competitions between machines which have recently established world's records, those attending the carnival next Saturday may confidently expect to experience something in the nature of an exceptionally thrilling and interesting spectacle. "as well as contributing towards the. support of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund.—l am, etc.. P. R.' CLIMIE, Chairman Carnival Committee.
