SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
RICHMOND. The Richmond School Committee me: oft Friday; present—Messrs Langford tchairman), Burscas, Brown, Halligan, Kay. Holliday. Pentecost and Simes. The Education Board wrote stating that Mr J. Bowden had been promoted to the vacant position of second assistant-master The head . master’s report showed the roll number since the opening of thesch 00l to be tit"s, with an average attendance oE 637. One hundred and eighty-five children had left and 61 had been admitted. The board had sent Mr Maxwoli to temporarily fill the position ,on the staff vacated by the resignation of Mr fMoore. Misses S. M’Bratney and M. Bell and Mr C. Zimmerman had been appointed pupil teachers and Miss E. Redpath probationer. Master J. Mnwson. of the school, had gained a Christ’s College entrance scholarship. Three pupils of the school, namely. Gladys Jones. J. Hartigan and Rowland Smith, had won prizes offered bv thp Women’s Christian Temperance Union for an essay competition on the evil effects of alcoholic liquor. It was resolved to cooperate with the staff in the efforts made by the educational section in congestion with ihe patriotic carnival. The head master. Mr M’Gregor) and Messrs Brown and Holliday were deputed to make ail arrangements for the lantern entertainment to be given by Messrs Wilkinson and M ake. A vote c»I thanks was passed to Mr Simes for his gift of two footballs for Ihe school. It was reported that all arrangements had been mads for the annua! picnic to be held at the New Brighton racecourse.
