WHOLESALE AND RETAIL" GROUP. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Wholesale and Retail 'Group mot in the Royal Exchange Buildings on Saturday; present —Mr W. Morley (in the chair), Misses Coombs and Richardson, -Messrs G. L. Berry, C. E. Boon, T. E. Clayton, \J. Cross, E: Lockwood, T. Kincaid, G. Nicholson, W. L. Thomas, J. W. Watson and G. H. Weir and the secretary, Mr E. Nordon. " . The secretary reported, that, witn few exceptions, the vairious stib-seo* tions had been working won.. A number of subscriptions had come in, and many more had been promised. Mr Boon, for the Master Bakers Association, reported that the members had agreed to pay two guineas monthly to the fuud. . ' Mr Cross, for the piano trades, gave an excellent report of the -rrork done therein, and mentioned, subscriptions from firms and employees already amounting to £220. Mr Nordon, for tbe Brewers, men r tioned that three firms had contributed £750. Mr Lockwocd also reported that the oil and colour trade had responded remarkably well. , s ■ . ~, It was reported that the dairies, the /fruiterers and the aerated water manufacturers were more than likely to form sections of their own than to fall in with any other section. PAINTERS' AND OIL MERCHANTS' ... SECTION. The committee of the Painters' and Oil; Colour and' Glass Merchants' section met at the Caledonian* Society's Rooms on Wednesday evening. Mr. D. Lee occupied the chair. ! The secretary reported that donations had been received and promised from a number of those in the trade. The Painters' Industrial Union advised that it had voted a substantial sum to the fund, and, in accordance with the committee's request, had elected Messrs Barr, M'Cree, Goodsall and Owen to represent, it on the subsection committee. - . Deputations wore arranged to call upon those in the -trnde.-who had not responded to the appeal made by circulars. As a large number of employees were paying weekly, it was recommended that cards should be procured and supplied to weekly contributors. The secretarv reported that 100 badges had been sold,'and a further supply was now available.
