LIFE SAVING.

BRANCH FORMED AT NORTH

BRIGHTON. A representative meeting of -North New Brighton residents was held at Thompson's Camp, Bowhill Road, yesterday, to consider the question ot forming a branch of the Life Saving Club at North Beach. Members of the New Brighton Surf Club were present by invitation. Mr\E. M. Leaver was voted to the chair. -U'ter some discussion regarding the advisability of forming a separate -atganisation or becoming a branch of the central club, it was decided, on the motion of. Mr A. R. Blank, to form a branch of the New Brighton Surf Bathing and Life Saving Club at North New Brighton. . Mr B. S. Knox (Surf Club) announced that.'members of the . North Beach branch, would be admitted without the usual entrance fee until such time as the branch had accommodation of its own. . An executive, consisting of Messrs A. 11. Blank, E. M. Leaver, A. M'Leod, F. Freeman and G. Burns, was appointed to manage and further the project. Mr Hucks offered the use of the band rotunda as a temporary pavilion to the cluh, and also promised members of the Surf Club every facility in regard to housing the reel and dressing accommodation when they gave instruction in life saving, etc. ':"" •■''■ Mr iSuter, instructor to the Surf Club, also offered his services to the new branch.

Votes of thanks were passed to Mi Hucks; members of the Surf Club and Mr Thompson for the use of his room. At a subsequent meeting of the new-ly-appointed executive Mr A. R. Blank was appointed captain and secretary for the season.

A reel team, consisting of Messrs Knox, Suter, Jones, Bryant, Gampbell,' Andrews and Dixon, then gave a 'demonstration on the : t beach before an interested crowd of spectators. • A North Beach team, consisting of Mrs Buchanan, Mrs Smith, Messrs A. R. Blank, A. M'Lcod, J. Harris, F. Freeman and A. Bennett, also demonstrated. .
