MOTOR-OAR FATALITY. : [From,. Our Correspondent.] TEMUKA, January 30. A man named Henry Halliday,, about fifty years of age, who resided at 32, Greenock Street, Roslyn, 'Dunedinivas killed in a, motor-car. accident which occurred near Temuka at 4.30 p.m. on Saturday. Mrs Halliday sustained injuries, to her wrist, and was badly bruised. The other three occupants, Mrs Scott, of Rotherham, Aniuri, and her two daughters, Annie and Alice Scott, escaped without serious injury. Mrs Scott is suffering from shock, and her daughters from bruises and shock. Mr Halliday and' his wife, had been spending a holiday at Hanmer. They were joined by the Scotts at Christchurch, and on Saturday they all left the city by motor-car for St Andrews at about 11.40 a.m. -At Ashburton a motor-car driven by Mr Alexander Lamb, builder, of Timaru ; who was accompanied by his wife, joined" them, and the cars kept close together afterwards. Half a mile below the Opihi bridge. Mr Halliday was under the necessity of turning sharply to the left to avoid a motor-car driven by Mr 'Shepherd, of Geraldine, which was coming in the opposite direction. As he was turning one of the tyres burst, and' the car, turning right over, pinned Mr Halliday underneath and scattered the rest of the occupants over the road. The car took another complete turn and a half, and' finally stood on its side. . Mr Lamb's car did' not collide with Mr Halliday's, and be and; his wife escapecKcomnletelv. Mr Halliday was badlv injured about the chest and face when wicked up. and' died at the Te Rata Hospital at 5.50. Mrs Hallidav and Miss Annie Scott are In hospital;. Mechanically tho car. a new 15-20. n F.T.A.T., was little the worse, but the body was much knocked about. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
