Mr Archibald, the American war correspondent, asserts his perfect innocence in connection with the Dumba
incident
The letter sent through Air Archibald includes the following passage:— “Even if the strikes fail to come off, it is probable that wo shall extort uuder pressure of the crisis more favourable conditions for our poor downtrodden fellow-countrymen. These" white slaves at Bethlehem work twelve hours a, day, seven days a week. All persons succumb or become consumptive.”
BERNSTORFF’S SCHEMING. CAMPAIGN AMONGST MUNITION WORKERS. NEW YORK, September 9. The “Tribune” says that Count Bernstorff’s campaign among the munition workers-is similar to Dr Dumba’s. lie advertised offering financial aid and good positions in peaceful industries to Germans abandoning mufiition work. A Reuter message states, that the Government has requested Austria to recall her ambassador, owing- to his propaganda aiming at the inauguration of strikes, in American ammunition factories. A New York newspaper chorus demands that Dr Dumba, Austrian Ambassador, should be handed his passport. The “ Herald ” asks that Count Bernstorff should also be. dismissed, adding: “Is America to be regarded as a puerile, inferior, pusillanimous country, and treated as the physical coward aiid mental incompetent among naThe New York correspondent of “ Tho Times” states: —“Unless the demand for Dr Dumba’s dismissal is insistent ho will escape with consuro.” 5
