ABITRATION COURT’S AWARDThe Arbitration Court has issued a judgment joining the Canterbury Publishing Company ivitli other newspaper companies in Christchurch as a party to the award given some months ago regulating the .wages aud conditions of reporters. Certain modifications, however, have been made, Tho minimum weekly wages are fixed as follows:—Senior reporters, £•5 10s: general reporters, £4 los; junior reporters, £3 os; cadet, first year, £1 os: cadet, second year, £1 10s; cadet, third year, £2; casual reporters, 10s per half-day or 15s a day; proof readers, first reader £4, second £3 ss. The proportion of senior, general and junior reporters is fixed as follows: Staff of 5 reporters: 2 senior, 2 general, and 1 junior; 2 cadets. Staff of 6: 2 senior, 3 general, I junior; 2 cadets. Staff of 7: 3 senior, 3 general, and 1 junior; 2 cadets. Staff of 8: 3 senior, 3 general, and 2 junior: 3 cadets. Staff of 9: 4 senior. 4 general, and 2 junior; 3 cadets. Staff of 10, 4 senior, 4 general. and 2 junior; 3 cadets. Staff of 11: 4 senior, 4 general, and 3 junior; 3 cadets. Staff of 12: 5 senior, 4 general, and 3 junior; 3 cadets. Staff of 13: 5 senior, 5 general, and 3 junior; 3 cadets. In the case of reporters exclusively employed on an evening paper, time off to compensate for overtime may be allowed Detween a morning and an evening assignment, provided that the morning assignment ends not later than 1.13, p.m. and the evening assignment begins not later than 7.30 p.m. Mr J. A. M'Cullough, the employees’ representative on the Court, did not concur in the modifications of the previous reporters’ award in regard to tho < proportion of senior, general and junior reporters of the staff!
