SHIPPING notes: One day ahead of her ueual time-table, the Cnion Company’s Moeraki arrived in Lyttelton yesterday morning with a large crowd of excursionist?. She also brought transhipments ex the steamers Hitachi Alaru, Vander Hagen, Ophir, Australis, Piriline. Bombala, Alderham and Wyandra, the following being the principal lines:—6 sacks rice, 273 bales wool, 1 cask mgots antimony, 45 casks bottles, 2 cases vermouth, 3 cases brandy, 40 cases sugar, 336 packages tea, 175 cases fruit, 5 cases oil and 16 bales jute and large quantity :‘of sundries. Running in place of the New Zealand Shipping: Company’s Ruapehu, the Federal liner Somerset is at present at Auckland, and latest advice states that she is due at Wellington on Saturday. The vessel is en route from London, and .should reach Lyttelton next week. The local agents of the American and Australian Line have received advice stating that the steamer Hallomsbire sailed from New York on Saturday last for New Zealand and Australia. The vessel wiil come out via Panama Canal, being duo in these waters about February 3. The Northern Company’s new auxiliary scow Te Teko has been completed, and will undergo trials this week. The vessel is one of two scows built for the shallow bar services in the, Bay of Plenty. To this end Te Teko has been fitted witk two semi-Diesel engines, each of 60 horse-power, adapted te bum crude oil. Her large holds have a carrying capacity of 150 tone, with a shallow draught, and she is fitted with special lifting arrangements for weights up to ten tons. The vessel is 80ft 6in between perpendiculars, 22ft 6in in beam and 6ft 3in deep in the holds. - She will be engaged in the trade to Whakatane and Opotiki. . The Commonwealh and Dominion liner Makarini, en route from London to Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand ports, oassed the Cape fit Good Hope oa December 6. The Nautilus Steam Shipping Company, of London, : is inaugurating a new service from London and other English ports to Chile, Peru and Ecusdor. It is proposed that this service shall take the place of that heretofore maintained by the Kosmos Line, of Hamburg. The Union Company’s R.M.S. Niagara arrived at Vancouver at midnight, on Wednesday last. The vessel sailed from Auckland early , this month. Mr G. P.
