"IGNORED!”

HOSPITAL BOARD QUARREL

The way in which tho Standing Orders of this Board have been ignored,' 1 said Mr J, H. Davisou at the meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday, lias made it impossible for mo to continue to act on the Finance Committee. That committee lias been ignored by the Board. After having given it a. certain power, the Board lias gone back on its jurovious action.” Mr J. D. Hall said that Mr Davison s remarks came as a blow. They contained an abstract allegation against tho Board as a- whole of disloyalty to the Finance Committee. It was a charge which Mr Davison should substantiate with tacts.

, The chairman (Mr F. Horrell) stated that the Finance Committee had recommended the Board to take action against two counties for the non-pay-ment of their arrears to the Board. The Board had adopted the recommendation,_ but at its next meeting reversed its decision in order to give the coun.ties time to pay, and they had done so. He had urged tho Board to take tho. course it had taken in order to avoid the cost of taking action. Messrs H. B. Sorensen and W. W. Tanner remarked that tho Board should endorse the actions of a committee to which it. had given instructions, hut Mr Davison, who was pressed to withdraw' his resignation, stated that his increasing deafness made it difficult fo hear what, was being said. At once the Hon R. Moore voiced a complaint from the other end of the room: At this, end we can hardly hear what you are saying, Mr Chairman.” Another member added:.“l’ve given up trying to follow what is done. I can hardly ever hear.” Finally, the filling of the vacancy on the Finance Committee was held over until tho next meeting, to allow Mr Davison to consider the matter, though lie still declined to join the committee.
