CHANGES AT NEW YEAH

PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS

[From Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, December 23,

A record number of changes will be made in the police force in the New Tear, the force literally being turned upside down. Tho list is not quite complete, but it is understood that there are something like 240 changes to be made in all ranks. These include the promotion and transfers of the best known police officials.

A “ Lyttelton Times ” representative ascertained that the changes include:— Inspector Donovan, Napier, goes to Dunedin as superintendent, replacing Superintendent Mitchell, who is retired on superannuation; Sub-Inspector M’Grath, of Auckland, goes to Napier as Inspector; Senior-Sergeant Cruickshank. of Timaru, goes to Auckland as sub-inspector; Sub-Inspector Sheehan, of Wellington, takes charge at Timaru ; Sub-Inspector M'Kinnon,' of Christchurch, goes to Wellington, replacing Sub-Insocctor Sheehan; SubInspector Johnston, of Auckland, goes to Gisborne, which is created a nfew district, as inspector; Detective-Ser-geant MTlveney, of Wellington, goes to .Auckland as sub-inspector; Siiblinspector Fouljy, of Dunedin, goes . to New Plymouth, which is created a separate district,'-'as inspector; ChiefDetective Broberg, of Wellington, goes to Dunedin as sub-inspector. There are many other changes, amongst which it is said that a new position of chief detective-sergeant will be created in the four centres, holders to rank as second to the ohief detective.
