MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The half-yearly meeting of the Washington Lodge, No. 28. 1.0.0.F..N.Z., was held in ihe Oddfellows’ Hall, Selwyn on December 14, Brother T. Grose, N.G., presiding over a large attendance. Brother T. Walker, secretary U.F.S. Dispensary, wrote informing' the lodge that the hospital scheme came into operation from December 1, and that members who were inmates of the Hospital on that date would be entitled to a free bed as from that day. The election of officers resulted as follows:—N.G., Brother W. G. Miles; V.G., Brother W. Gray; financial secretary, Brother W. H. Simmons; recording secretary, Brother J. Wright; treasurer, Brother James M’Cullough; adult offices Juvenile Lodge, president, Brother Frederick Schwartz; vice-pre-sident. Brother L. W. Cooper; J.V. president, Brother G. Colville. The receipts of the evening amounted to £lsl 65 3d. A vote of thanks to the. visitors was responded to by Brothers L. AVhito (llidgley Lodge), Maynard (Star •of Linwood) and Hitcliin (Star of Sydenham). After the lodge was closed, a smoke concert was held. When a number of toasts were honoured, Brother M. J. Hartigan, D.D.G.M., presented Brother Simmons with the Past Grand’s cup and a piece of plate which he had won two years in succession for miniature rifle shooting. Brother Lane, who was only one point behind, was presented with a pipe. Brother Brunsden contributed a song, and Brother Fred Jones a recitation. “ Daddy ” Schwartz, the only original charter member of Washington Lodge now living, gave a resume of Oddfetlowehip, past and present.
