METHVEN HORSE PARADE.

Judges, Messrs T. Bowling, A. Orr and Bonis M'Kendry; secretary, Mr F. J. Stone. The ■ second parade of draught stallions under tho auspices- of the Methvcn Agricultural and Pastoral Association was hold yesterday afternoon in tihe presence of a large 'attendance of farmers and others. There were eight entries, us compared with twelve at the initial parade, but thero were two other draught stallions on tho ground which were not eligible for competition. The horses, with one or two exceptions, were well bred and of a particularly useful stamp, and were a credit to tho district. Tho fanners present look great interest in the' parade, and though the entries were numerically weak, the display was one that would be hard to excel in any other district of a similar size to Methven. The Association gave a first prize of £5, the conditions attached being that the horse must travel the Mount Hutt district and stay ftt Methven at least one night in each week during tho season. In addition to tho placed horse, certificates were given to tho three next best. The competition between the four was very close, and the judges expressed the opinion that they were •horseg calculated to leave progeny of the most useful type for the district generally. The horses had all been subjected to a veterinary examination, and each had a clean certificate for soundness.

The first prize was awarded to Mr Daniel M'Kendry's four-year-old Dan Talbot, by Sir Talbot, dam Ginsy Queen. Mr D. M'Namara's Young Montalto was awarded a very highly commended ticket, Mr R. Paul's Baron M'Gregor was highly commended, and Mr D. M'Cambridge's Pleasure Bent was commended.
