SOUTHBRIDGE CLUii The annual meeting cf the Sculhbridge Tennis Club was liekl in the Library on Monday evening, the president, Mr 0. C. Free, presiding over a good attendance. The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting to £62 6s Gd, including a balance of £2 15s 4d from -the previous year. The chief items on the receipts side were:—Subscriptions £24 lis Cd, concert £l4 Bs, dance £lO 15s. The expenditure was £SB 15a (top-dressing courts and improvements to grounds £l7 17s, pavilion account £l2 14s 4d, pavilion account final payment £10). The secretary of the Dunsandei Club wrote, asking the Southbridge Club to co-operate in arranging a district toumamont. Members wero favourable, to the proposal, and the president and Mr Chapman were appointed delegates to attend any meeting of representatives of various clubs that might be arranged. Officers were elected as follow:—Patron. Hon R. H. Rhodes; president, Mr J. C. Free; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Storry, W. Scott, A. .1. Inwocd, E. F. Chapman, Misses Cryer, Tulloch and M. Abbatt; secretary and treasurer, Mr L. Andrews; general committee, Messrs W. Butler, C. Thompson, G. Abbatt, J. S. Inwood, H. Money, Mrs Thompson, Misses Hill, G. Riordan and S. Withers; auditor, Mr W. Scott. It was decided to hold the opening day on the 30th instant, and to arrange a match, Town v. Country, for October 17. The following subcommittees were appointed:—Works committee, Messrs Thompson, Butler and E. F. Chapman; match and ladder committee. Miss Hill, Messrs Chapman and Andrews. TE WHAKA CLUB. A meeting was held in the schoolroom of St Saviour's Church, Lyttelton, last evening to consider the matter of forming a new tennis club in the port. There was a good attendance, and the Rev E. Eliot Chambers presided. The question of reviving tho old club was discussed, but when the financial position was fully explained it was decided that the liabilities accumulated in the past would form too heavy an incubus. It was therefore resolved that a new club should bo formed, and that it should be called "To "VYhaka Tennis Club." The following officers were elected: —President, Rev E. Eliot Chambers; vice-presidents, Drs Upham, New-all and Guthrie; secretary, Mr J. Gardiner; treasurer, Captain J. M. Scott; management committee, Miss Cook, Mesdames Comer and Young, Messrs G. Moon and Radclift'e; tea committee, Misses Matheson and Murray, Mesdames Plimmer and Weastall. An application will lie pent to the next meeting of tho Coxmcil for the use of the courts at West Lyttelton, and a further meeting will be held next Wednesday; evening. At the conclusion fifty names -were handed in as intending members.
