"VIOLET DAY."
TO BE HELD TO-MORROW. The executive committee to make arrangements for the sale of violets tomorrow in aid of the Poor of Great Britain, Ireland and Belgium Relief Fund met in the Chamber of Commerce yesterday; present—Mesdames Pyne (in the chair), Palmer, Dalgety, Lane, Buchanan, Treleaven, Raphael and H. R. Smith, and Misses Tabart (2), Crosby, Burns, Messrs C. G. Dalgety, J. O. Jameson, F. O. Raphael and H. R. Sellers. Mr H. R. Sellers was appointed honorary, secretary, Mr C. G. Dalgety honorary treasurer and Mr Charles M. Parker assistant honorary treasurer. The committee arranged the stations for tho violet sellers for to-morrow. All those who have volunteered, or who are willing to assist, are requested to report at tho Chamber of Commerce, A.M.P. Buildings, Cathedral Square, to-day, between 2.30 p.m. and 5 p.m., in order that they may be acquainted with their positions for to-morrow. It was decided to work in three shifts of three hours each, starting at 8.45 a.m. .sharp, and continuing until 6.15 p.m. or later if necessary. The committee wish those ladies who have volunteered to help to wear red, white and blue badges, and official badges will be provided to-morrow morning at the Chamber of Commerce, which will be the headquarters. Donations of violets will be received by the committee to-day at headquarters.
It was resolved that the buttonholes should be sold for not less than 3d and the bunches noteless than 6d. The committee' is indebted to Mrs Simpson, Messrs Fisher and Buxton for promises of flowers, to Mr A. Rattray for the uso of tables, and to the St John Ambulance Society for the use of collecting boxes.
