POLITICAL NOTES.

[From Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, July 17 SELWYN BRIDGE.

The Minister of Railways was interviewed by Messrs Witty and Forbes to-day with a request that the Se'lwyn railway bridge should be decked or that a light bridge should be built alongside it to meet the needs of motor and other light traffic. They also represented to the Minister some complaints which have been made regarding the accommodation house at Boaley. Tho Hon W. H. Herries replied that if the local authorities interested in tho bridging of the Selwyn communicated with him ho would give the matter consideration. Ho recognised that something might bo done, especially if the local bodies would assist. As for the accommodation house, he would see if its completion could be expedited. Meanwhile the tenant would not be charged for it by the Department. DOMAIN RATING AREA. The Government has been asked byMr YVitty whether it will appoint a commission to reconsider the rating area fixed under the Christchurch Domain Act, 1913, and to consider the advisability of tho application to tho area of a scheme of differential rating. Somo of tho local bodies who are compelled to contribute have to maintain their own domains, says Mr Witty, and should not have to pay the same rate as tho city of Christchurch.
