MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
On Tuesday the Lyttelton Ladies' Guild of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society held the usual monthly meeting, Mrs M. J. Miller presiding over a good attendance of members. It "was reported that during the past two months seven new members ■ had joined the Guild. Several reports from sister Guilds were received, and that from Akaroa enclosed a cheque of £lO towards the funds of the Institute. Tho Sumner Ladies' Guild visited the Institute on Friday last and the members greatly appreciated tho work done amongsv the seafarers. _The half-yearly installation meeting of the Star of Ashburton Lodge of Druids was held on Monday evening, when, in addition to a largo attendance of members there were a number of visitors from the Success of Ashburton. Timaru and Poneko Lodges. Tho chair was occupied by A. D Brother M. Morcan. (hw candidate was initiated into tho Order and two proposed for membership. Brother xi. A. 0 Connor was presented with a sash for proposine tho greatest number of members during tho half-vear. - 1 " 8 balanee-=heot showed that £404 ios lOd had been received in contribuJw'nfP,?, l7B lld in interest, and that £142 had been paid in pick pay and doctors' fees.
