A conference of colliery proprietors, on Friday will consider the question of the afternoon shift. ■A conference of representatives of the 1 coal'miners of the State to-day decided that a deputation should wait on the Minister of Mines with a view to an amendment of the Mining Act. The statement is made that the miners are determined to secure the abolition of the afternoon-shift. { rThe Victorian Coal Miners' Association has promised assistance in this flirection.
