TOURNAMENT AT LANCASTER PARK. MARRED BY BAD WEATHER. The Canterbury Rugby Union's annual scven-a-side tournament at Lancaster Park was held at Lancaster Park yesterday. The weather in tho morning was threatening, and beforo lunch a heavy southerly gale with rain and sleet had sprung up and continued till the end. Under these circumstances matters wove very unpleasant for aii concerned, but the players battled through to tho cud and concluded al grades. The attendance was poor. There xvcre largo' entries, including a number of country teams, and great interest was taken in tho fortunes of each team. Some of tho best games were in the lower grades, and the beating that Coys' High School gave Star in a cold rainstorm was a fine display of dogged play, oappjd wit;-, two clever tries. Christchurch won the senior competition rather luckily. They just got home against Linwood with a try secured from a loose rush near the lino. Old Boys, after beating Albim handsomely by 20 points to nil in :> fast scoring back game found them selves put out by a bustling team of cardinals frcm Canterbury College who had previously dismissed a weal: Marists team. Sydenham defaulted and Merivale met Christchurch in tl.< semi-final only to lose, unluckily, who: the ball went into touch in goal' off on of their own players. Christchurch had a similar win against Canterbury Col lege in the final, although College were unlucky not to be awarded tho match for something very like a force-down by Christchurch in the third spell. The following are results:— SENIORS. First Round. Christchurch beat Linwood by a try, scored by Burns, to nil. Old Boys beat Albion by 20 points to nil. Tries were- scored bv H. Fourteen started in the relay race, run over a distance of 800 yards. Each man had to run 220 yards with a football under bis arm and transfer <t to the next man. A football seven-a-side tournament was carried out under unpleasant conditions. The senior grade competition for all local teams was won by the Pirates Club, Celtic second. Ihe junior grade was won by Albion (Christ church). Temuka second. The third grade was won by Zmgan, Higa School' second. The fourth was won by Star, Temuka second.
