CHAMPIONSHIP CONTESTS. [Pee Press Association.] DUNEDIN, June 2. The tug-of-war championship was advanced a further stage to-night in the presence of a big attendance. Two of the light-weight teams, Enfield and Nightcaps, rather unexpectedly defeated heavier teams in Dunedin Police and Hornibrook's (Christchurch). The following are results:— A SECTION. Hoffman Bros, beat OtakOu Maoris. Nightcaps beat Dunedin Police. Springhills beat Port Citizens. Enfield beat Hornibrook v 's (Christchurch). Taieri beat Waterside Workers No. 1. Telegraph No 1 boat Stevenson and Cook No. 1. Inch Valley beat Invercargill Sailing Club. B SECTION. Gore won by default against Telegraph No. 2. Sevan's West Coast team beat Speight's No. 1.
