The Royal Edward had a great welcome at Avonmouth. Tho passengors declare that Captain Wootton’s promptitude averted a disaster in Cabot Strait.

The vessel had reduced her speed owing to the Empress of Ireland’s wireless warning. An iceberg was seen two thousand yards distant. Captain Wootton reversed tho engines and put the ship head-on.

The boats were swung out. The passengers were mustered, and some wero placed in the boato, but the ship did not leak, though her bows wero badly buckled.
