The New Zealand Shipping Company received tho 'following cable from London regarding the Waimate: " Waiinato tire extinguished by water without assistance. Expected to sail shortly. Damage not yet ascertained. Twelve hundred bales of hemp, 250 bales of tow and IGO bales of wool known to be damaged."
