GRAFT IN RUSSIA.
BLACKMAIL LEVIED BY POLICE “ Times ” and Sydney " Sun ” Services. ST PETERSBURG, May 22.
The police at Odessa were exacting tribute of £B6OO annually from sixty disorderly houses. The grafters wished to drag a new inspector into their school. Finding threats unavailing, they invited him to luncheon.
As he appeared to acquiesce, they laid before him a full list of houses, together with the contributions.
The inspector requested a few hours for consideration and was permitted to retain the documents until next day. He had the papers photographed, and the police implicated will be prosecuted.
