DIVIDED FORCES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The result of the North-East Derbyshire election in your columns ot to-day sounds another note of . warning to tho progressive forces in this country, and gives them the inevitable result of triangular contests under the old first past the post system. A member returned representing six thousand odd of tho electorate, and over nine thousand going unrepresented—that is what will happen m New Zealand next election if the Liberal and Labour parties maintain tlieir present attitude of every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost. Let those two parties, in the interest of the progressive people of this oonntry, form some kind of a compact for the coming elections, and let the Reformers howl frantic charges of a Liberal-” Red Fed” alliance and all. that kind of trash, as no credence is given to it by any intelligent person.—l am, etc., ? 6*NE WORKER.
