KILLED IN A LIFT-: i [Pee Peess Association.] "? WELLINGTON, May 14. if A fatal accident occurred at Gibbons and store, Lambton Quay. Stephen Alderton was jammed between' the lift and the top of the lift well.; was known of the accident until Cottrell, a fellow employee, found Alderton's body. Cottrell says that Alderton. put bags of seed ori the lift at the second floor and took them to the top floor. As he did not return Cottrell looked up and saw Alderton's head stuck between the lift and the ceiling of tho top floor. Deceased,! who had been in Gibbons and Co.'s em ploy for about three years, is believed to have been a native of Napier.

[Per Press Association.] * INYERCARGILL, May 14. An inquest regarding the circunV stances surrounding the death of George Ellis, who was found shot in a-boarding-house at North Invercargill, was held to-day. The doctor's evidence was that death was due to laceration of tho brain and cerebral hemorrhage. There was a bare possibility that the shooting might have been accidental. A verdict was returned that the de» ceased died from a gunshot wound seh? inflicted. . ~ ACCIDENT AT LYTTELTON. y About 4.30 p.m. yesterday, a mar* ried man named Andrew Guy, whilst! working at the New Zealand Loan an* Mercantile Agency's shed at was struck by a bale of- cornsacks. was conveyed to the Casualty Ward where Dr Newall and Dr Guthrie at--: tended him, and it was found that hiV thigh had been broken. Guy was afterwards removed to the Christy church Hospital.
