The dispute in regard to giving, the people of Sumner direct access to the Summit Road from their borough has now been settled by Mr G. The position waa first drawn attention to,by Mr H. G. Ell, M.P., who wrote to the Sumner Borough Council, stating that there was no road connection between Upper Clifton and the Summit Road, but that Messrs Bowron and Smith, the owners of tho land, were willuig to givo a strip of laud if it was fenced where required, and if the road was declared a public road, the Borough Council to meet tho costs. Before tho Council took steps in the matter, however, tho land was sold, aud tho offer was withdrawn. A great j deal of regret was felt in the borough, as the residents were deprived from having easy accoss to tho splendid walk that lias been provided on tho top of the hills. Mr Humphreys's liberal offer now restores the means of reaching tiie> toad. j.-
