NEW SPORTS GROUNDS

TECHNICAL COLLEGE PLAYING FIELDS. OPENED ON SATURDAY. Tho new sports ground adjacent to tho Technical College Girls’ Hostel was opened on Saturday afternoon under very favourable conditions. The function was a successful one, and there were about five hundred people present. Mr W. J. Dobbs, president of the Past and Senior Students’ Association of the Technical College, who presided, thanked the Board of Governors on behalf of the Students’ Association for tho generous way in which they had prepared the ground for tho use of both past and present students of the CoUego. . Mr G. Scott, chairman of tho Technical College Board of Governors, briefly outlined the history of the Hostel and tho grounds, and after wishing all sports bodies connected with the playing fields success, formally declared tho grounds open for the use of past and present students of tho Christchurch Technical College. A series of hockey games was then proceeded with. A fancy dress match of the third and fourth grade teams of the Past and Senior Students Boys’ Hockey Club attracted a great deal of atteniton, Christchurch met Bible Class in a Senior match on another ground and after an exciting and well-played game, Christchurch won by four goals to one. The ladies’ match between the Technical College A team and Nguia was well contested, and resulted in .a win for the College team by two goals to nil. , In tho match Ladies v. Gentlemen or the Students’ Association, the latter team won by one goal to nil. A match was also played by teams from the day school. The Swedish drill display by .a squad of girls from the day school under tho direction of Mr Sarolius, physical culture instructor, was watched with interest, the girls going through their performance very well. Afternoon tea was served on the tennis lawn by the ladies of tho Students’ Association.
