YESTERDAY’S GAMES. THE STEAD CUP. The competition for the Stead Cup was continued at the Polo Ground yesterday. The weather was dull, but the rain held off. The following wore the results: PAREORA v. CHRISTCHURCH. Christchurch—T. Rhodes, jtL. Little, Teschemaker, Captain Oublow and Hutton. (Teachemaker and Captain Onslow played alternately.) Pareora —A. Elworthy, P. Elworthy, H. Elworthy and L. Orbell. Pareora got busy at once and 1 in a very short time H. Elworthy had notched a neat goa.. . A. Elworthy, shortly after, scored again from a melee in front of the posts. Pareora 2, Christchurch 0. Just before the end of the first spell Pareora again gave Christchurch a lively interlude, but nothing resulted. Sharp work succ'eeded in the second spell. Pareora pressed repeatedly, and Christchurch at one time had a very easy chance, of which they failed to take advantage. Just before tho end of the spell Orbell shot another . goal. Pareora 3, Christchurch 0. Fast mid-field play succeeded, and ended in an easy chanoe for P. Elworthy, of which he took advantage. Pareora 4, Christchurch 0. Desultory play followed, neither side having much advantage. Then Christchurch woke up and Hutton registered their first goal., Pareora 4, Christchurch 1. Pareora, however, had a steady advantage in the play which followed, and H. Elworthy added another to their acorb. Pareora 5, Christchurch 1. At the beginning of the next spell A. Elworthy scored once more. Pareora 6, Christchurch 1. Christchurch saved well on several occasions afterwards, but their play was, of necessity, largely defeneive, and 11. Elworthy succeeded again from a good combined rush. Pareora 7, Christchurch 1. P. Elworthy scored again before the end of tho penultimate spell. Pareora 8, Christchurch 1. In the final spell both sides made things .brisk, P. Elworthy scored again, and Onslow added one for Christchurch. Pareora 9, Christchurch 2. The game ended, with these scores unaltered. HA WARDEN v. RANGIORA B. Hawarden—G. L. Rutherford, C. O. T. Rutherford, E. Davidson and T. Davidson. Rangiora—C. Olney, E .Fear, J. Chapman and A. Feat. The game opened briskly, and E. and T. Davidson with one goal each put Hawarden in the lead. Hawarden 2, Rangiora 0. G. L. Rutherford followed shortly after, and scored a nice goal. Hawarden 3, Rangiora 0. E. and T. Davidson were a host in themselvee, and the latter soon put Hawarden still further ahead. Hawarden 4, Rangiora 0. Fast mid-field play followed, with rapid incursions into Rangiora territory, ending in another goal by C. O. T. Rutherford. Hawardon 3, Rangiora 0. At tho beginning of the next spell Fear attempted to savo from a very difficult, in fact, almost impossible angle, when ho hit tho ball between his own posts, registering a goal for hiß opponents. Hawarden 6, Rangiora 0. Fear made amends immediately afterwards, however, by scoring with a brilliant shot. Hawarden G, Rangiora I. C. O. T. Rutherford ndded another to the Hawarden score immediately after. Hawarden 7, Rangiora 1. Indecisive play followed for sometime. Hawarden, however, were much superior to their opponents in the finer tactics of the game, and T. Davidson added two goals in rapid succession. Hawarden 9, Rangiora 1. Two more goals were added just beforo the end of the spell by G. L. Rutherford and E. Davidson. Hawarden 11, Rangiora 1. The sixth spell saw C. O. T. Rutherford add one more to the Hawarden total. Hawarden 12, Rangiora 1. A hot attack by Rangiora oponed the final spell, but Hawarden quickly rallied to tho offensive, and T. Davidson shot threo nice goals. Hawarden 15, Rangiora 1. Just beforo the game ended G. L. Rutherford hit a goal, which was not allowed as tho hell had sounded, and the game ended with Hawarden 15 goals and Rangiora 1. TO-DAr’S GAME. Tho final will be played to-day between Pareora and Hawarden, commencing at 2.30 d.w.
