CHICAGO’S POLICEWOMEN.
INNOVATION THAT FAILED. “ Times.’’—Sydney “ Sun " Special Cable*. NEW YORK, March 5 The policewomen of Chicago liavo been relieved from duty after a trial lasting several months, because their roughness in dealing with waitresses during strike operations caused rrowds to assemble. (A Chicago paper, referring to the innovation, said at tho time:—There is no unlighted corner left for the worst of us. But perhaps the gentler admonition a woman can give, combined with the deference it instinctively commands, may better succeed in restoring order within the city than any amount of flourishing tho truncheon. At aiiy rate, Chicago is willing to try the experiment, and it will be watched with interest.)
