THE WEATHER.

The unexpected change in the. weather in North Canterbury yesterday afternoon was not unwelcome, although it put a stop to the threshing, operations. Heavy rain was general and will do much good in reviving the grass which was becoming very dry on the plains and hillsides. The fine weather experienced at Ashburton of' late was broken yesterday shortly after midday,.when a south-west wind sprang up, bringing with" it heavy clouds. . Rain commenced about 2.30 p.m., when slight showers fell, but this was followed by heavy rain, which continued during the. remainder of the afternoon, with every appearance of continuing. The rain will do a great amoiint of good, as the land is feeling the effects of the continued dry spe With the exception of the farms at the base of the hills, harvest operations are practically over in the country.
