CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, March 5. (Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) Drunkenness. —Two male first offenders were each fined ss, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. Breach of the Peace.- —John Fraser •and William Hayes were charged with fighting in High Street, and thereby causing a breach of tlie peace. After hearing evidence the charge against Hayes w’as dismissed, and Fraser was fined 40s, in default one month’s imprisonment. A Defended Case. —The case was concluded between the New Zealand Piano Company (Mr F. TV ilding) and Christopher Grogan (Mr Weston), in which the plaintiffs claimed from the defendant the possession or delivery of a piano, the property of the plaintiffs, alleged to have been wrongfully detained ' by the defendant, or in the alternative £2O damages. Tlie Magistrate reserved his decision for argument. ■ Civil Cases.— Judgment by _ default was entered for the plaintiffs with costs in each of the following cases:—Booth, Macdonald and Co.
