He would have been quite prepared to give ah. exhibition had such a course been adopted.

EAST CHRISTCHURCH CARNIVALThe East Christohurch Amateur Swimming Club held its annual carnival at the Tepid Baths last evening. Owing to tho inclement weather the attendance of spectators was rather small. The entries were large, and some first-class racing was witnessed. Owing to the Somerfleld Club abandoning its inter-olub carnival arranged for next Saturday, the third distance (75yds) of the schoolboys’ championship will be swum. at the Woolston Club's carnival on Saturday, and the fourth distance will be arranged later. AUSTRALIAN SWIMMERS. NOT TO VISIT CHRISTCHURCH. The secretary of the Canterbury Centre received advice yesterday from the Auckland Centre, that the Australian swimmers who are at present oompeting in Auckland will be unable to come to Christchurch, aa they are returning to Sydney on Monday.
