FANNY FROM CHATHAM ISLANDS. A ROUGH TRIP.

Shortly beforo 4 p.m. yesterday tlio auxiliary ketch Fanny, belonging to Captain Jones, of Invercargill, entered Lyttelton from Chatham Islands with a cargo of frozen fish on board—the second landed in the port by the vessel. According to Captain Jones the little craft has only about half her usual freight on board and this was due to a blow-out in the refrigerating machinery which resulted in a laTgo quantity of ammonia being lost. Every effort was made to obtain a further supply on tlio island, ■but with no avail and consequently it wns found expedient to sail for Lyttelton in order to prevent the loss of the catch already on board. The vessel left the Chatham Islands on Thursday, February 23, and with the assistance of a fairly Btrong northwest wind fair headway was made. Later the wind veered to the south-west and on Wednesday and Thursday blew with the force of a cyclone. .On Thursday tlio sens were high and on one occasion the deck was swept by waves, resulting in somo planking on the port bulwarks being _ stove in. The following day the weather cleared and the wind dropped to a calm, necessitating the use of the engines. Early yesterday morning the Fanny was off Godley Head and with the assistance of a strong breeze made port in the afternoon. The freight will be shipped probably to Australia this week and tho vessel will return to the fishing grounds.
