The Rev J. Gillon and other passengers by tho last Island steamer say that the volcanic outbreak at Ambrym presented a magnificent spectacle from the deck of the vessel.

It will probably never be known how many natives perished. There were numbers in the bush, and it will be some time beforo their fate is ascertained, if over.

Somo who swam in the sea were scalded to death through the water being heated by lava.
