THE FISHING SEASON.

TO OPEN TO-MORROW. The season for trout fishing in the Canterbury district will commence tomorrow. The regulations provide that no trout under nine inches may be taken or killed by any person. The lieonse does not entitle the holder to catch any fish for sale purposes. No fishing is allowed this season in any part of the Avon from the watercourse near the bend of the river on the Riccarton Road through the city to the Colombo Street bridge, and no fishing other than witli artificial fly or minnow is allowed from the watercourse, near the bend on the Riccarton Road to the Carlton bridge, during the months of October and November. No fishing except with artificial fly or minnow is allowed in the Selwvn River from the Selwyn railway bridge to the Ellesinere railway bridge during the months of October and November. Fishing in Victoria Lake and Horseshoe Lake is absolutely prohibited. The 'breach of these or any other regulations, renders the offender liable to a fine.

Witli regard to lake fishing, the "Gazette" of March 14, 1912, states: —The season for fishing for trout in Lakes Rubicon. Grassmere., Lyndon, Miramar and Sarah shall commence on the first day of December in each year and end on* the thirtieth day of April in the following year. It shall be unlawful to take trout by angling from boats of any description whatever on the lakes hereinbefore mentioned. Any nerson committing a breach of the foregoing regulations is liable to a line not exceeding £20."
