ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held last evening; present—Messrs O. J. Thomson (chairman), Dr Anderson, H. R. Brittan, J. ( Milne, F. Pratt, P. De La Cour, W. Billins, J. Hardcastle, H. Price, J. Sutherland and 11. Cotton. Mr R. Howison, of Ellesmere, wrote asking whether there was to be a six weeks’ shooting season, and if so what game could be shot, nnd when the season opened. The secretary said he had replied to Mr Howison stating that this was an absolutely close season.
The Department of Internal Affairs wrote stating that the Council’s application to have Section 25428 and part of Section 26341, Waipara County, Stonyliurst Riding, gazetted as a sanctuary under the Animals Protection Act would be acceded to, and asking the Society to describe the area. _ The South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society wrote asking for a copy of the fishing regulations in the Society’s district. .The secretary was instructed to comply with tho request. It was reported that a young albatross had been presented to the Society by Mr E. R. Waite and a pukeko by Mr Guiness, also a weka by the curate of St Michael’s Church.
