MINING.
The mine manager of the . Golden _StM mine. Macrae's, reports as follows:—No. 1 low level is a north and south reef, obowing gold and schcelite in the stone. The .tunnel has been driven 50ft, and a cross-cut has boen driven in the reef a distance of lift, but no walls have been found. A rise is now being put up and rich gold is to b# seen in tho ore. No. 2 level is an cast and west reef, and also shows a considerable amount of scheelitc. Forty-six tons of ore from this reef yielded Hcwt of hand-picked scheelite. together with 11401 b ’of Echeelite from the “AVilfley ” saving' tables, with a percentage of 68.7 per cent of tungstic acid, and 14oz of amalgam from the plates. No. 3 level—This reef is also an east and west reef, somo 4ft in thickness on the outcrop, and . gives good prospects for scheelite and gold in tho dish. The tnnnel is now boing driven, to intercept this lode, and 'will cut the reef at a distance of 48ft from the surface. The battery is now in full swing, and satisfactory returns will soon be to hand. The following telegram has been received from the foreman:—" Struck nice gold No. 2 rise.” Thi* is most oatisfaetory, and the future of th* mine seems assured.
