CARNIVAL WEEK.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I should liko to make a suggestion to the citizens of our handsome little town. Briefly, it_ is this: That every shop proprietor illuminates i his shop window each night, say until 10 o'clock during Carnival Week. If our Mayor, Mr Holland, made a public request the shop and warehouse proprietors would surely combine to make the city bright and gay, as at present on Saturday nights. Our Carnival Week is famous throughout both islands, and we get crowds of holiday makers from all towns and the country, many for the first time, " coming in to have a look round Christchurch." Are wo taking full advantage of this widely-known festive week? I think not. Wo havo a good band rotunda, beautifully situated, and several splendid bands, and why not make arrangements for the " boys " to give a couple of hours each night during the " Week " P Kunning a town is rnuch liko running a business. The "boss man" must be progressive and mako the proposition popular. Christchurch is undoubtedly the cleanest, prettiest and most city-liko city in New Zealand, but we must show her off at her best when the unique opportunity is here.— I am, etc., SWAMP HEN.
