EVIDENCE REFUSED IN AUCKLAND. [Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Juno 28. Before tho Cost of Living Commission to-day, Eugen Langguth, merchant, objected to "ive evidence, stating when asked for his reason that a member of tho Commission had written letters to Parliament about trusts and other things. Mr Fairbairn asked: If 1 retire, will you give cvidsiiceP Witness: No. H. Bamtie'd, representing the Amalfaniated Society of Carpenters and oiners, said ihet his committee was averse to the Commission, and he was instructed not to give evidence. The chairman remarked that the Act provided for a lino of £2O for a refusal. Ho would consider tho matter.
