Thornton, representative of the recently-formed Brunner Collieries _ Company, of London, fi.ro at present visiting the "West Coast on business connected with the Brunner mines. To-day they visited tho North Brunner mine, in company with Mr R. Alison, who will be mine manager of tho new company's concerns. In view- of tho great demand for coal there is a probability of tho North Brunner mine being reopened aimost immediately. The Pactolus dredge last week obtained 4 607. Sdwt for 178 hours’ dredging. Tho New Big River return for tho month of April is 650 tons crushed, yielding 5780 z of gold. The cyanide treatment dealt with 500 tons of sands, yielding 670 z lOdwt of bullion. The total estimated value is £2175. Mr H. M. Smythe, local director of the Ross Flat Goldfields, Lid., states that it has been decided not to wait for the plant to arrive, but to 3tart to develop and unwater tho mine a 3 soon as the manager has completed tho alterations and improvements ho considers advisable. By the time the property is adequately opened up and doveloped and tho faces are ready to l>e worked once more, the stand-by engine should be completed and in working order. When the application of tho Blackwator Minos, Limited, for protection for two and subsequently twelve months, to enable Mr Ziman. the managing director of the company to proceed to Britain with a view of raising the necessary capital to work the prohibition area, was before the Warden’s Court to-day, Mr Hannan explained that the previous Blaokwater Extended Company had spent £4668 in prospecting this claim, and that the Consolidated Company had secured tho option and had since spent £2863 12s 30s in further prospecting, and they wore still of the opinion that good prospects wonld result if a working capital of not less than £50,000 were expended on it. That was why Mr Ziman was going Home. Tho "Warden granted two months’ provisional protection, and will deal with on application for a longer period when certain documents are filed.
