OXFORD

A meeting of the General Committee of the Oxford Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Saturday. There was a largo attendance of membersj and the president (Air TV. Weld) was m the chair. It was unanimously resolved to support the proposal of the Canterbury Association for an annual provincial conference of Agricultural and Pastoral Associations. The meeting expressed its sympathy with Lieutenant-Colonel Millton in his recent illness. The president reported on the recent show. Everything, lie said, had tended to make it a success. There had been good entries and everyone connected with tho show had shown the greatest enthusiasm. While there were not quite 1000 exhibits, there were 1430 entries, a considerable increase on any previous year. Tho show had been heartily supported by the public, and there had been a most generous response to tho request for donations and special prizes. During tho year a largo exhibition building had been erected, with offices and other necessary accessories, at the cost of £l7O, and the grounds had been improved. Notwithstanding this extraordinary expenditure tlio balance sheet showed a substantial credit balance. Other speakers referred in congratulatory terms to tho success of tho show and made suggestions in regard to further improvement. It was agreed that the greater encouragement and support should be given to tho cattle section. Accounts amounting to £3OO. including prize-money, were passed for payment. The president mentioned that Mr Courtier, _ the Government Orchardist, would visit, the district if desired, and if the conditions were favourable and the necessary facilities given, would establish an experimental orchard. Tho question of experimental plots and an experimental farm was also considered. It was decided to hold a social, at which matters of interest to the Society and the community would he discussed.
