PERSONAL.

Mr W. H. Irvine left by the Wimmera last evening for Sydney. Messrs G. D. and P. D. Greenwood left by the Maunganui yesterday for Wellington. Messrs C. G. Hyde and G. M. M’Lean were passengers by the Maori from Wellington yesterday.

Mr J. H. Fountain will be a candidate for a seat on the Tramway Board at the election in June. <

Amongst these who left for Sydney yesterday by the Maunganui were Dr Simpson and Mr B. J. Hodgson. Mr Herbert G. Ponting, bioscopio and camera artist attached _to Captain Scott’s Antaretio expedition, left for Sydney by the Maunganui yesterday. Mr F. W. Flanagan, Mr and Mrs W. G. Stead, the Rev A. B. Chappell and Major Kirk were passengers by the Maori last night for Wellington. Sir Robert Anderson and Lady Anderson, who arrived in Christchurch on Wednesday evening, are visiting Moana, Lake Brunner, but will return to Christchurch this evening. , Mr P. Christie, who has been in Lyttelton for some weeks in connection, with the purchase of the dredge Manchester by the Sydney Harbour Trust, loft for Sydney by the Maunganui yesterday. ' Arrivals in Christchurch include the following:—Messrs T. G. Young, 8. Solomon, W. F. Edmond and A. Johnson (Dunedin), J. H. Edwards (Hobart), B. G. Thompson (Invercargill), 0. Macfarlan© (Koromilco) and A. S. Thomson (Balmoral). Professor J. Macmillan Brown, who retired from* his position on the New Zealand University Senate by rotation, was nominated again by the electors on the register of the Canterbury Distinct Court of Convocation, and, as there were no other nominees, was declared re-elooted. The term of office is six years. Nominations closed yesterday for the election of a representative of Otago University to a seat on the Senate of the University of New Zealand- The nominations received by the registrar are those of Professor Marshall, Professor Gilray, Professor White and Mr Allan Thomson (first Rhodes scholar).
