BOWLING.
EJASTER TOURNAMENT. The Easter tournament of the Ckriatcliurcli Centre of the lNew Zealand Bowling Association was continued on the Canterbury . green yesterday. The final of tho rinks match-'between M Gollau s rink (Sydenham) and James J3racko2mdg©’B rink (Sunny si do) was tho only morning play. Tho Sunnysido rink made a good start, scoring a single on the first head and a three on the second. Tho Sydenhanutes scored a two on tho third head, ana. in tho fourth M’Gallan took the jack through with four or five bowls lying against him, and converted the position to two in his favour. Tho next head M’Gallan turned with his last bowl, the Sumiyside drawing having been too steady for liim. On the fifth head Sydenham added two, Sunnysido replying with a single on the sixth. On the seventh head a, fino shot by Hudfield displaced two. Sunnyside bowls, and placed hie own against tho jack. M'Gallan improved tlio position by a nice draw, Sydenham scoring three. On tho eighth head tho leading play saw Sydenham, lying well. Jolm Brackenridgo put the kitty in the ditch, and M’Gnllan beat' James Brackenridgo in drawing to the new position, the .head producing one for Sydenham. A two, a four and a three 1 were added to Sydenham’s score in the next three heads, the result of good steady drawing by every member of tho rink. On the twelfth head the position was open when file skips wont to tho mat. M’Gallan tried a drive and then a draw, failing in both. Braokenridge improved tho score, tho head netting his sido a much-needed five, reducing Sydenham’s load of 12 to 7. Good drawing by tho leads on both, sides made tho thirteenth head a close one, Sunnyeide getting a. single on a measure. Tho fourteenth head gained Sunnysido another single, a drive by lu. Gallan taking the jack back, but failing to scoro for Sydenham. On the iifteenth head Sydenham had two bowls lying covering tho jack, when tho skips went to the mat. Brackenridgo cut out one bowl -with his first bowl, and with his second cut out the other and Jay tho shot, gaining another single for hin side. M'Gallon turned the next head with his last bowl. Tho seventeenth head was full of excitement. M’Gallan succeeded in cutting out the kitty from amongst & number of Sunnysido bowls, but Brackenridgo hod a few bowls behind, and Sunnysidb secured another two, making the score Sydenham 17, Sunnyeide 16. On tho eighteenth head Hadfield drew two nicos ones, which were not beaten, bringing Sydenham’s score up to 19. In the nineteenth head M’Gallari accomplished a difficult approach to kitty, but failed by a hairsbreadtli to beat the lying Sunnysido bowl. Tho twentieth head wss an open one. with Sydenham lying two when tho skips started play, M’Gallan added another draw, and Brnekenridgo's last bond ran through, Sydenham's score going on to 22, leaving Sunnysido to make five to tie and six to win. In the last head Sydenham wero lying tho shot when the skips came to play, while Sunnyside had five bowls close up. Braokenridgo failed to alter tho position. Following aro the results: RINKS MATCH. Final. Sydenham—Allen, East, Hadfiold, M’Gallan (skip), 23; Sunnyside—Bloor, Gow, John Brackenridgo, James Brackenridgo (skip), 17. Tko game was an attraotivo one to watch, tho standard of play being high throughout. Bloor was perhaps tho better of the leads, though Allen was also drawing wall. East was useful to Sydenham with sound drawing, but Gow, for Sunnyside, , seldom seemed to be able to gauge the greou. Both Hadfield and John Braokenridge played well, either drawing or driving, and while James Brackenridge played some beautiful scoring shots, end skipped his rink. with sound judgment, M'Gallan’s generalship and drawing and driving abilities were of a very high order. DOUBLES MATCH. . Semi-final. Sunnyside (Barnett-and Braokenridge), 26; Sydenham (Jacques and J. D. Buring tho course of the tournament Mr H. L. Bowlcer very kindly rent several cases of fine ripe pear 3 lo the Canterbury green, the fruit being heartily appreciated by both players and onlookers. Shortly before -t p.m. a heavy thundershower fell, which flooded tho green, rendering further play impracticable. OAMARU TOURNAMENT. [Pkr Press Association.] OAMARU, April 9. The bowling tournnment concluded to-day in good weather. Visiting bowlers were present from tho various centres of the South Island, but on this occasion several of the prizes remain to local men. ResultsHorraway's rink secured first in Citizen’s Prizes, Waddell (Phamix) being second and Abbott (North-east Valley) third. In the Phcenix Prizes, Smith (Kaituna) won, with H. Martin (Meadowbank) second. In the Oarnaru Prizes, Smellie (Green Island) was first, and Bentley (Dunedin) second. In the Phoenix Prizes (pHirs). Broad and Mollison (Phoenix) won, with Brown and C. Bee (Phcenax) second. In the Meadowbank Prizes (pairs), Armstrong and Veitch (Caledonian) were first, and Pitts and Gray (Norih-cast Valley) second. In the Last Try. Hamilton and Watts (Otago) won, with Bosomworth and Brown (St Albans) second.
