FROZEN MEAT TRADE.

Iho Frozen Meat Trade Association’s Smithiield Market quotations for the undermentioned classes of frozen meat are based on actual sales of not less than 100 carcases of mutton or lamb or 25 carcases of beef ol fair average quality. These quotations are not for selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of the shipments now on the market:—
Rabbits.—The market lias further collapsed, and little business is being done. Best Sydney, 15s per crate of twenty-four. GRAIN. Wheat.—Tlio total quantities of wheat and.flour afloat for tho United Kingdom amount to 3,260,000 quarters, and for "the Continent to 1,200,000 quarters. Atlantic shipments are 103,000 quartors, and from Pacific ports 16,000 quarters. The total shipments to Europe for the week are 1,000,065 quarters, including from the Argentine 285,000 quarters, from Russia 150,000 quarters, from the Danubian provinces 160,000 quarters, from India 113,000 quarters, and from Australasia 164,000 quartors. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 26. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable message from the Higli Commissioner, dated London, February 25. The quotations, unless otherwise specified, are the average market prices on the spot: Frpzen Meat.—Mutton—The market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker. A fair demand continues, and the output is satisfactory; North Island 3Jd to 4|d (according to quality). Lamb— Tlio market is dull owing to poor demand, and sufficient supplies are on hand to last for present requirements; Canterbury s^d; North Island is freely offered at an average of sjjd for bestquality and 4Jd for secondary; Australian 4[d; River Plate. 4]d. Beef— Tile market is quiet, with small business doing; chilled hindquarters forequarters 3d. Butter.—The market is quiet, but firm; a feeling of apprehension prevails, however, on account of the striko that is threatening the coal trade. The average prices for the week for choicest were: New Zealand 1325; Australian 128 s; Danish 138 s; Siberian 1295; Argentine 127 s per cwt. Cheese. —Tlie market is quiet, but steady, and prices are firm and unchanged; Now Zealand, white 725, coloured 71s Gel. Hemp.—The market is quiet, but steady, with very few offers from tho dominion, and prices are more or less nominal at about tho quotations already given; New Zealand good-fair grade on spot £2l 5s por ton; fair grade £2O ss; forward shipment, New Zealand good-fair, £2l 10s; fair grade £2O 10s; fair current Manila on spot £2l 15s; forward shipment, fair current Manila, £2l 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 32.000 bales. Cocksfoot Seed.—The market is firm, with little doing. Danish is quoted at 77s ex warehouse, buyers holding back until they know what tlio prospects of tho crop are on the Continent. Wool.—There is a , better demand
